How To Give Your Lamps A Paint Makeover?

This one lamp makeover totally changed the room—and it’s so easy to copy. It is a story of a $5 thrifted lamp, a pop of paint, and one fearless color choice.

Sometimes it’s the smallest change that makes the biggest difference.

This sunshine-yellow lamp? It completely changed the energy of El’s bedside setup—and she didn’t buy a new one. She just painted the old one.

Hero Hack – The Painted Lamp Glow-Up

1. Choose the Right Paint
Spray paint or chalk paint (formulated for metal/plastic) works best. Go for high pigment and smooth coverage.

2. Pick a Bold or Pastel Tone
El chose a vibrant yellow for contrast, but soft lilac, mint green, or even matte black could work depending on your color story.

3. Add a Protective Finish
Seal with a clear top coat to keep the color vibrant and avoid chips—especially for lamps that get moved or touched often.

Pro Tip: Unscrew the parts and tape off any electrical areas for a cleaner, safer finish.
