How To Turn Tin Cans Into Planters?

The cutest planters made from… a tin can? This floral DIY turns kitchen scraps into vintage-style herb pots—and it’s easier than you think.

What do you get when you mix a chickpea can, floral napkins, and wooden beads?

Apparently—a ridiculously adorable herb planter that looks like it belongs in a vintage Italian kitchen.

This delightful upcycle by Anna from Staffs, UK is one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments—so simple, so joyful, and so satisfyingly pretty.

Hero Hack – Tin Can Herb Planter in 4 Steps

1. Start with an Empty Can
Give it a good clean and remove the label. Chickpea or tomato cans work best.

2. Apply Mod Podge + Napkin
Brush Mod Podge over the can’s surface, gently press on a printed napkin layer (separating it if it’s 2-ply), and smooth out bubbles with your fingers.

3. Add Wooden Beads as Feet
Glue 4 wooden beads to the base for that boutique “lifted” look. It adds a little French café charm to any windowsill.

4. Fill with Herbs (or anything else)
Pop in basil, cilantro, or even faux greenery—or repurpose as a pretty container for paintbrushes, pens, or kitchen utensils.
